Welcome to the Portola High School Health Office
We're here to ensure all our students have the support and resources they need to stay healthy and safe while at school. The Health Office is open daily from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Health Office Staff and Care
Initial student care, including the administration of first aid, is typically provided by the Health Assistant. The broader school health program is led and supervised by the Credentialed School Nurse (a Registered Nurse with specialized training and authorization).

Health Office PROCEDURES
Please note the following procedures for visiting the Health Office:
- Student Pass Required: A student must secure a pass from their teacher before coming to the Health Office (a pass is not required if a student becomes ill during lunch).
- Accident or Injury Reporting: Any accident or injury occurring on school grounds between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM must be reported immediately to the Health or Front Office.
- Leaving Campus: An ill student is not to leave campus without first obtaining permission from the Health Office. To be sent home by the Health Office, students must first report to the Health Office before calling their parents.
Student Health Requirements
We require current documentation for the following:
- Immunizations: The school must have medical documentation of each student's immunizations upon enrollment. Under SB 277, personal belief exemptions are no longer an option for required vaccines. Please notify the school when your child's immunizations are updated. For complete requirements, please refer to: Shotsforschool.org.
Student Health Information and Emergency Protocols
- Current Health and Contact Information: Maintaining up-to-date health information, phone, and cell numbers is vital in case your student becomes ill or injured at school or during a disaster.
- Emergency Services: Please be aware that a 911 call may incur paramedic and ambulance fees to the family. You may wish to consider accident and health insurance.
- Confidentiality: We strive to maintain confidentiality of all health records. Health information may be shared with appropriate staff only as necessary to provide care.
Health Screenings & Medi-Cal
- Health Screening: Screening (including vision, hearing, dental, nutrition, height, and weight checks) is provided according to State requirements or when students are referred. Parents/guardians will be notified if areas of concern are found. If you wish to "opt out" of non-mandated health screenings for your child, please send a written note to the School Nurse.
- Medi-Cal Program: The district participates in the California Medi-Cal Program for Local Education Agencies to receive federal funds for selected medically necessary services for eligible students. Students will not be denied services they require to attend school, and parents will not be billed for services by the school district.
If you need assistance with any of the required forms or have questions about your student's health plan, please contact the Health Office during our open hours via email or phone. Please allow 24 hours for a response.
